Chalk Painting an Antique Mirror Frame

I’ve heard from some of my family members that you can chalk paint pretty much anything. Seriously – my aunt chalk painted an antique scale and my mom chalk painted a cushion. I had only tried chalk painting wood furniture up until last weekend when it alllllll changed. Dun, dun, dun…….

My dear gramps passed away a few months ago and as my mom and aunts were going through his belongings, they kept texting me to see if I wanted stuff. Leaf blower? Sure! Bread box? Um… okay! An old mirror they always had from way-back-when? Mother Bird said I could chalk paint it, so I said, “OK! New challenge!” She wasn’t joking when she said way-back-when… she sent me this picture for proof – she was about 16 here!

Have you ever been punched in the stomach? I hope not, but that’s kind of the feeling you get when you walk back to your car and discover it’s there’s been a car robbery.  🙁

That’s what happened last week when we were in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Now that it’s been a few days, I’d like to share everything I’ve learned from the car robbery in hopes that it might prevent a tragedy like this from striking your life.

Our Trip to California

Last weekend my husband, brother-in-law and I took a beautiful vacation to California. I’d been so excited for the trip and just wanted to feel a “cool breeze in my face” after this ridiculous AZ summer. We visited Universal Studios Hollywood

August Crew Member Spotlight: Meet Kristi Kisler

This month’s Crew Member Spotlight is an absolute joy, and her name is Kristi Kisler! Kristi works with my dear husband at San Tan Charter School. She loves travel, photography, geneology, and all types of art.
Andrew and I are so excited to all be going on the same trip to Italy (through 10850163_788061197910072_1954687396384939147_ntheir school) next March!

I asked Kristi a few questions about her DIY style, and I absolutely love her sheer honesty on being a home improvement novice.  😆 She recently sold her house north of Phoenix, so she’s excited to get decorating once she’s settled in her new home.

July Crew Member Spotlight: Meghann Welch

Members of The Crew, Rise and Renovate’s VIP list, are entered into a gift card drawing every month. The winner receives a home improvement or home decor gift card of their choosing along with a spotlight in the blog!

I’m excited to announce July’s winner, Meghann Welch! Meghann has showed such passion for winning over the past month that I was shocked and had to laugh when my Excel spreadsheet picked her as the winner. She also happens to be my sister-in-law. Congratulations, Meg!

When I first moved to Arizona 2.5 years ago, I actually lived with my brother and Meghann for about 4 months! It was an exciting time as Meghann was pregnant and they were moving into their newly built house. We took more trips than I can remember to pick up new furniture, which usually resulted in me squeezing in the back of the car wherever I could fit.

“I always find stuff there that I just can’t seem to live without.”

About Meghann…

Hardwood Floor Adventures, Part 1: Getting an Amazing Deal and the Realistic Costs of DIY

Over the weekend we shared a few live videos on the Rise and Renovate Facebook page of Andrew and I tearing out carpet and installing new floors in our bedroom! Before we dive into all the details, let me take you back to the beginning. Last Monday I received a text from my husband…

TextConvo01

Such a light text for such a hefty decision, amiright??  😆

Aaanndddddddd here’s the car later that night. I painted myself in to help you understand how I fit into the car for our 25 minute drive home (that’s not really me just so you know, it’s hard to tell)…
