Happy September, friends! I am so stoked for this fall – we are almost there!! As you may have seen on the Rise & Renovate Facebook or Instagram, we’ve been working on an exciting new project: BARN DOORS! We have a loft upstairs with double doors, and we’re replacing them with two barn doors. There are a few different stages of this project, so today I’m excited to share Part 1: Prepping the doorway!
Now, you can’t just slap up a couple barn doors and expect them to look Pinterest-worthy (unfortunately, lolol). If the doorway already had doors in it, you’ll need to take them off and make it look like they were never there! This includes taking off all the existing door hardware and smoothing out the sides and top panels so it looks more like a walkway than a doorway.
Back in July, you might remember the beginning of our master bedroom floor makeover. We even live streamed it on Facebook when we ripped out the carpet (watch it here), which was hilarious and disgusting.
Well, 4 months later (because that’s how all DIY projects go, right??), I am ECSTATIC to reveal our FINISHED (for now!) bedroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *cue round of applause and joyous whistles*
In our final set-up we moved our bed to a different wall, so don’t get confused in the pictures!
Guys. Over the past couple weekends, Andrew and I have been giving our backyard a massive haircut. Like, gigantic. Huge. Monstrous. I’m fairly certain that no yard work had been done at our house for 5+ years, if not longer (and our house is about 12 years old).
It was a long and tedious process, but we found this little guy who lovingly egged us on –
I’m SO excited to show you the before and after pics and share a few things we learned along the way.
Before we bought our house I had never done a large home renovation project. Sure, I’d worked on a million DIY projects and painted walls, but making part of our house un-liveable was a new experience entirely.
Our floor remodel was a huge project – much bigger than I expected. Now that we’ve lived through it, I’m sharing what I’ve learned (so far) and giving a few tips to help your next project go as planned (almost!). 😆
Over the weekend we shared a few live videos on the Rise and Renovate Facebook page of Andrew and I tearing out carpet and installing new floors in our bedroom! Before we dive into all the details, let me take you back to the beginning. Last Monday I received a text from my husband…
Such a light text for such a hefty decision, amiright?? 😆
Aaanndddddddd here’s the car later that night. I painted myself in to help you understand how I fit into the car for our 25 minute drive home (that’s not really me just so you know, it’s hard to tell)…
I want to take you down the road of how we saved 85% on our hardwood floors, but also take a realistic look at how much it actually costs to install your own flooring.
